ROMAN LEGACY

Hadrian's Wall snakes its way across some of the most beautiful scenery in England from Wallsend in the east to Bowness on Solway in the west.

Renowned as a World Heritage Site, the Roman army began construction in around AD122. In its heyday the wall was 73 miles long and 5 metres high.

One of the most photogenic locations along the wall is shown here just north of Haltwhistle.

The dynamic diagonal cut of the wall in the foreground helps provide a strong composition, whilst the walker lends scale to the image.
