AN ARCH OF STONE
Perhaps one of the most famous locations for landscape photography can be found here at Ashness Bridge, south of Keswick in the Lake District National Park.
Photographed countless times, this spectacular location has everything in place to create the "ideal" image. A stunning stone arched bridge, fast flowing beck, famous lake and view of the Skiddaw mountain range combine to produce an idyllic location.
The trick of photographing such a site lies in waiting for ideal conditions. Whereas a million images may have been taken here - the majority of "snappers" will not have waited for "the moment".
To succeed and produce a worthy image requires the key elements of light, season and composition.
Here the transition between autumn and winter sees low rays of sunlight striking the ancient bridge facade. The uncompromising clouds over Cat Bells in the far distance reinforce the feeling of early winter with a light dusting of snow capping the highest peaks.
