National Parks
The National Parks of Great Britain contain some of the most outstanding features of our countryside. The highest mountain, deepest lake, sweeping hillsides and rugged coastlines... they are quite simply the UK's "breathing spaces."
Most of the UK population live within 2 hours drive of at least one National Park and they are a mecca for walkers, mountain bikers and of course... landscape photographers!
The images in this section of the Gallery concentrate mainly upon those National Parks in the north of England and Wales... namely:

MILLSTONE SUNRISE
Stanage Edge is a 'Gritstone' escarpment situated on the eastern side of the Peak District National Park close to the city of Sheffield.
Millstones or 'Grindstones' were once quarried here and numerous examples of them can still be found abandoned around the hillside.
Careful planning played a large part in the making of this image.
I had visited Stanage Edge earlier in the year and discovered these fine examples lying together.
Feeling that they would make an ideal foreground against a fiery sunrise, I used a compass to ascertain when in the year the sun would be perfect position.
All that was then required was to keep a watchful eye on the weather for the right conditions and revisit during the month in question.
