Antrim, Northern Ireland","photo_ref":"","description":"<b>THE GIANTS SUNSET<\/B> <br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe Giant's Causeway is situated in County Antrim on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThis is truly a special place and a landscape photographers dream.  <br>\r\nIt simply oozes atmosphere from the moment you lay eyes upon its spectacular form.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nOf course the main problem in capturing images here, is to come up with someting a little different from multitude of enthusiasts that have been before.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nOn the evening of the shoot, heavy storm clouds had been sweeping continually inland off the Irish Sea, bringing short but intense bursts of heavy showers.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nOnly the insane... and a desperately keen photographer would be foolish enough to stand against the onslaught.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThen it happened! - the watching and waiting finally paid off as a gap began to appear in the storm clouds out at sea and within minutes a shaft of glorious low raking sunlight illuminated the hexagonal basalt columns before me.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe lighting lasted for no more than a minute, allowing me to capture both horizontal and vertical compositions before disappearing never to return.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nFor me it was an awe inspiring experience... and one that will remain with me always.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\n","photographer":"","width":400,"id":5446953,"height":260,"takendate":"","payment_groups_id":"","server_id":1,"link":"photo_5446953.html","src":"IRE-0011Dp-The-Giants-Causeway-at-Sunset-County-Antrim-Northern-Ireland12.jpg","home":0,"purchase_instruction":"","galleries_id":7191,"gallery":0});

This image portrays a more tranquil appearance, a far cry from its turbulent history.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe use of a heavily graduated ND filter has helped to retain detail in the shadowy slopes below the castle.
