","photo_ref":"","description":"<b>MILLSTONE SUNRISE<\/B><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nStanage Edge is a 'Gritstone' escarpment situated on the eastern side of the Peak District National Park close to the city of Sheffield.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nMillstones or 'Grindstones' were once quarried here and numerous examples of them can still be found abandoned around the hillside.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nCareful planning played a large part in the making of this image.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nI had visited Stanage Edge earlier in the year and discovered these fine examples lying together.  <br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nFeeling that they would make an ideal foreground against a fiery sunrise, I used a compass to ascertain when in the year the sun would be perfect position. <br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nAll that was then required was to keep a watchful eye on the weather for the right conditions and revisit during the month in question.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\n","photographer":"","width":400,"id":5457253,"height":342,"takendate":"","payment_groups_id":"","server_id":1,"link":"photo_5457253.html","src":"PKS-0061D-Millstones-Below-Stanage-Edge-at-Sunrise-Nr-Hathersage-Peak-District-Derbyshire.jpg","home":0,"purchase_instruction":"","galleries_id":308977,"gallery":0});

																																																																						photos[5457246] = clik.newPhoto({"item_price":"","section_code":"gallery","caption":"","location":"Dolbadarn Castle, Snowdonia","photo_ref":"","description":"<b>GUARDIAN OF LLANBERIS<\/b><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nDolbadarn Castle stands on its own rocky outcrop some 80 feet above the waters of Llyn Padarn, approximately halfway along Llanberis Pass in the Snowdonia National Park.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nDating from the 13th century it was built by Llywelyn the Great as a strategic fortress to control movements within the heart of Snowdonia.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nToday it is a shadow of its former self with a 40 foot high round tower rising starkly above the landscape. 																																																																						photos[5457283] = clik.newPhoto({"item_price":"","section_code":"gallery","caption":"","location":"Alportdale, Peak District, Derbyshire","photo_ref":"","description":"<b>THE GREATEST SLIP OF ALL<\/b><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe so-called '<b>Alport Castles<\/b>' is one of the most dramatic features within the Peak District National Park.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nIt is the site of the UK's largest landslip and a popular location for landscape photography - albeit an isolated one!<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nIts unusual name originates from the large mounds that the landslip has created, the tallest of which '<i>The Tower<\/i>' resembles a full scale motte and bailey castle from a distance.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nI have tried hard here to come up with an alternative view of this location, using the large boulders that have crumbled from a nearby cliff face as foreground interest.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nI waited nearly 2 hours for the correct lighting conditions to form. The perfect reflection of Mellbreak Fell in the still waters of Crummock Water demands that the image is divided exacly in two.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe line of a conveniently situated fence and drystone wall have been utilised to provide a clear demarkation line between hillside and reflection whilst the oblique side-lighting has brought out texture in the wall.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nA polariser was used here, to both saturate the glorious seasonal colours and allow stones upon the lake bed to be subtly displayed.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nI feel that this is one instance where a clear blue sky has enhanced the image, creating no distracting elements in the calm waters of Crummock Water.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\n","photographer":"","width":400,"id":5457290,"height":560,"takendate":"","payment_groups_id":"","server_id":1,"link":"photo_5457290.html","src":"LKS-0235D-Crummock-Water--Mellbreak-Fell-Lake-District-Cumbria.jpg","home":0,"purchase_instruction":"","galleries_id":308977,"gallery":0});
																																																																						photos[5457286] = clik.newPhoto({"item_price":"","section_code":"gallery","caption":"","location":"Castlerigg, Near Keswick, Lake District","photo_ref":"","description":"<b>FIRE AND ICE<\/b><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nCastlerigg Stone Circle on the outskirts of Keswick, is perhaps the most famous and well visited attraction in the whole of the Lake District National Park.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nHow can one find a truly original image of such a classic and iconic location?<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThe answer lies in 'perseverance!'<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nI have lost count of the number of times that I have visited this location...  but finally on this occasion I finally achieved my '<i>Holy Grail<\/i>' here.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nA very hard frost had occurred overnight turning the ground white with rime. 																																																																						photos[5457291] = clik.newPhoto({"item_price":"","section_code":"gallery","caption":"","location":"Cockley Beck, Lake District","photo_ref":"","description":"<b>A SECOND GLANCE<\/b><br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nCockley Beck is an isolated little community set high up on the Wynrose Pass.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nMost people transit this delightful single arched stone bridge en-route to Hardknott Roman Fort without giving it a second glance.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nThat of course, is the beauty of being a landscape photographer.  We rare breed like to explore where others may merely pass by.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nSo it was on this occasion where the irresistable charm of white stone cottages, neatly arched bridge and rushing beck demanded more than a second glance.<br>\r\n<br>\r\n<br>\r\nBy combining a polariser with ND filter here, I managed to slow the exposure down enough to show movement in the rushing water.
